VINTAGE DETROIT HOLLYWOOD THEATER photo picture print photograph for sale. Old Vintage Detroit Movie Theater photo picture print photograph poster art for sale. This sepia toned VINTAGE DETROIT HOLLYWOOD MOVIE THEATER photo picture print is made from a professionally restored very rare original 1950 black and white vintage Detroit Hollywood Movie Theatre photo/negative. The Detroit HOLLYWOOD THEATER was built in 1927 by architect Charles N. Agree and was located at 4809 West Fort St. at Ferdinand in Detroit. It seated 3,436 patrons and was the second largest theater in Detroit when it opened. It was a grand and beautiful movie picture film palace built at a cost of $2 million about a mile west of downtown Detroit. Owners Ben and Lou Cohen apparently thought the city would be growing their way quickly and it never really did. The Hollywood never took off, and was left out of the wide screen boom that helped most of the larger theaters in the fifties survive. It closed on may 25, 1958 and was torn down in 1963. The site is now a parking lot. This is an extremely rare and wonderful photo of this Detroit movie palace. On the marquee is a double feature with the movie 'CAGED' starring Eleanor Parker and Agnes Moorehead getting top billing and 'CURTAIN CALL AT CACTUS CREEK' starring Donald O'Connor and Gale Storm as the 2nd feature. Very few photo of this beautiful theater exist---this is one of them.

The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals.
